Making A Difference in NJ During COVID-19

While many of us across the nation have been asked to stay away from crowds and practice social distancing to keep our families safe and reduce the spread of COVID-19, there are also many of us who have been asked to join the front lines of sick crowds and tight quarters to fight this global pandemic. You may know some of those essential workers and we at Premier know several. One of our office staff employees, Nick Fosmire, a recent nursing graduate, didn't waste a minute before putting his license to immediate use.

I obtained my nursing license a week ago during the worst health crisis in recent history. Right away, I wanted to put that license to good use and help as many people as I could.

Nick was offered a job during the weekends in a COVID-19 testing site in New Jersey, which happened to be quite far from his home in Brooklyn. But that didn’t stop him, instead he rented a car for the weekend and was determined to put his new license to good use.

I was scared and excited at the same time, but it ended up being a very inspiring experience.

It was amazing how many nurses showed up at 6 am to get the operation up and running. Even though all the healthcare workers who showed up were each putting their health at risk, everyone had an amazing attitude and was eager to get the job done. The national guard joined the initiative too, and together this group made a very efficient team.

I experienced first-hand the anxiety that this is causing to all of us.

When Nick arrived at the facility at around 5:30 am, there already was a long line of patients waiting for the site to open. Doors for testing didn't open until 8am and many of those in the front of the line had told the team they started waiting at 12:30 am the night before!

Overall, I am proud to have been a part of this effort and help people get tested so that we can stop this virus on its tracks.

Premier Home Health Care wants to personally thank all of our field staff, the front line healthcare workers and all essential workers who are out there continuing to work to keep our community healthy, safe, clean and fed. You all have and will continue to be the #heroes during this #COVID19 pandemic.
